Tottenham handed blow in hope of selling defender who has impressed on loan in the Championship

Leeds’ Championship stay thwarts Tottenham’s plans for Rodon sale

Tottenham Hotspur receives a blow in their pursuit of selling defender Joe Rodon this summer as Leeds United fails to win promotion to the Premier League.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed a phenomenal season on loan at Elland Road; however, his performances proved not enough to inspire Leeds United to automatic promotion to the English top-tier. A third-place League finish means Leeds had to feature in the play-offs en route to a possible promotion.

Things looked positive for Leeds United as they triumphed 4-0 over Norwich City and faced Southampton in the finals. However, Daniel Farke’s men could not capitalize on the opportunity in the finale, with a 24th-minute goal from Adam Armstrong ensuring that the Saints return to the Premier League.

There have been wide reports of Leeds United’s pursuit of buying Joe Rodon this summer, with £12 million–£15 million seeming to be a probable fee that Tottenham would be willing to sell the 26-year-old Welshman for. However, following their fates to play another season in the Championship, their hounding for signing the former Swansea City midfielder got a lot harder.

Leeds United will not only find it difficult to convince Joe Rodon but also tricky to afford his services as they spend another season in the second-tier of English football. It is to be seen if their love for Rodon is enough to spend massive fees to acquire him or if they take the decision to pursue a more affordable option.

For Tottenham, they would like to get hefty financials to sell Rodon this summer as Daniel Levy & Co. oversee a massive squad overhaul this off-season. They can invest the fees in other potential players, as Ange has eyes for ceiling-raisers.
