Tottenham Hotspur join race for Celtic youngster Daniel Kelly
Tottenham Hotspur are set to raid Ange Postecoglou‘s former club as the North Londoners enter the race for Celtic midfielder Daniel Kelly, per Daily Record.
The Australian gaffer has done a brilliant job since taking over at N17 last summer, and Daniel Levy will look to continue the progress under the Spurs boss as they look to target continued success. There is expected to be a massive clearout in the summer, complemented by the club looking to sign some ceiling raisers, and that has landed them back in Scotland to take another priced piece off Celtic.
Will Kelly choose Celtic or academy pathway with Spurs?
Kelly has been a part of the club under Ange Postecoglou’s tutelage, where the Australian gaffer guided them to silverware. Although he did not make an appearance under the 58-year-old’s guidance, he did take part in training behind the scenes. The teenager seems to have impressed the former Celtic boss enough for him to consider bringing Kelly into the Spurs under-23 and academy setup.
The club has reportedly kept tabs on the Celtic midfielder for a number of years, and they are about to fortify their interest in the Scottish youngster.
Tottenham are not the only club vying for his signature. The North Londoners will be competing against the likes of Manchester United, alongside undisputed German champions Bayer Leverkusen, who have made a formal approach for Kelly’s signatures. Italian giants Bologna also show interest, alongside newly promoted Como, where Cesc Fabregas serves as assistant boss.
Per Lanarkshire Live Sport, the 18-year-old is keen to continue with the current employers; however, they are offering him three or four times less salary than his potential suitors. He could be on a £9,000-a-week deal if he departs Scotland this summer. Clubs will have to pay £490,000 in training compensation fees for his signatures.
