Real Madrid eye Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero to address defensive woes.
Tottenham Hotspur winter arrival Radu Dragusin has not featured predominantly for the North Londoners since his move to the N17 in January.
The Lilywhites signed the Romanian international from Genoa in a £26.7 million (€31 million) deal after the 22-year-old chose to veto a move to the Lilywhites despite a late hijack attempt from Bayern Munich that got Spurs fans worried. There were lots of expectations from the Tottenham faithful as regards his instant impact after signing at White Hart Lane. These expectations came on the back of his impressive outings for Genoa in the first half of the recently concluded campaign.
Owing to the already-established duo of Romero and Mikey van de Ven at the back, the Bucharest-born defender did not get any commendable opportunities to showcase his potential wearing the North Londoners colours last season. He completed ninety minutes only four times in Tottenham Hotspur’s colours after moving to the N17.
He did put in some impressive performances at the back when the chances came his way. Radu played a commendable role against Aston Villa and was also impressive in Spurs loss to Manchester City in the final run-in of the campaign.
Former Wolves striker Jay Bothroyd acknowledges Radu Dragusin’s quality and insists that he has a bright future ahead of him and has to play more to fulfil his potential. Speaking in the Optus Sport Football Podcast, Jay said:
“I liked him when he played; Micky van de Ven went left-back; he stepped in; an aggressive player, a young player; he looks pretty composed on the ball, but I thought he was quite good.”
“And I was surprised that he didn’t play more for Tottenham, if I’m honest, especially when they had all those injuries and suspensions. I’m surprised he didn’t play more. But I think he’s someone who’s going to be key for them, and this is a tournament where, if he goes and does well, he could give Ange a problem as to if he’s starting and having Micky van de Ven at left-back next season.”
Radu definitely has a big future ahead of him, and it should not be long before the Spurs faithful see him shine at the backline.
