Arsenal eyeing the 25-year-old Tottenham target, earlier rejected by the Spurs
Arsenal are looking keen to secure the services of Marcus Edwards, whom Tottenham released as a free agent back in 2019. But recently, the Spurs displayed their interest in bringing the star attacker back to the squad.
Given that the attacker is keen to join the Premier League, Sporting CP will probably try to cash in on him in the upcoming weeks. He is fortunate that his former club and an elite club like Arsenal are keen.
Growing through the youth ranks of Tottenham, Edwards couldn’t really find his way to their senior team squad. Guimaraes signed him from Tottenham on a free transfer in exchange for 50% of any future sale before he went to Sporting CP.
While Tottenham would be looking forward to getting ahead of the Gunners to secure Edwards’ services, they could also let him join Arsenal and enjoy the profits they will earn from their clause.
Edwards made 44 appearances in total for Sporting CP throughout the 2023–24 campaign, maintaining 15 G/A contributions, with six of them being his own.
The development in the performance of the star forward made his former club believe that he is now ready to play for their first team and they are now keen on securing his services this summer.
It makes sense that Arsenal is interested in Marcus Edwards. The Gunners are keen to add a wide attacker during the summer transfer window and want two excellent alternatives at every position. Thus, the Sporting CP winger has become a potential target for them.
It is evident that since the 25-year-old left Tottenham, there has been significant growth in his gameplay. With talent like his, he might show promising growth at any club he moves to.
Personally, too, it is beneficial for him to now move on to an elite platform like the Premier League to put his development and skills to the test and nurture them even more.
