“He shocked me”- The former Tottenham captain heaps praise over Micky Van De Ven

The former Tottenham captain reveals Micky Van de Ven impressed him after his debut campaign

Ledley King, a former Tottenham captain, commended Spurs’ star defender Micky van de Ven following the defender’s stellar debut year at the North London club.

Tottenham signed the 23-year-old defender last summer for a fee of £43 million from Wolfsburg. Micky made an instant impression in the Premier League and at Spurs, where he put up a number of incredible displays.

Micky unfortunately picked up an injury in the first league loss against Chelsea on November 6th, and his hamstring injury kept him out of action until January. He was one of four casualties that day.

Micky went on to make 29 appearances in all competitions before the club’s supporters acknowledged his efforts with a resounding victory in the Player of the Season awards.

Ledley King, a legendary former Spurs captain who spent the most of his 322-match Spurs career playing centre-back, was one of those supporters who was amazed by Micky’s performances. The 43-year-old said:

“If I’m honest, he’s shocked me. There are not many times you get a young, left-footed, centre-half who is rapid, and you don’t know too much about him.”

“For him to be here and to be of the quality he is, it’s really impressive. He’s impressed everyone, he’s been fantastic… scoring goals as well as well as defending – I love everything about him.”

“I don’t expect to see anyone outrun him any time soon. I can’t see anyone beating him at the moment. His pace… I think he could run in the 100-metre final, and he wouldn’t finish last! That’s how fast he is.”

Doing wonders at only the debut season is no joke

With the talent and agility of Micky, the Spurs’ defensive lineup feels amazingly strong. It genuinely takes a lot to emerge as the fan favourite after only the debut season at a club.
