Spurs lock horns with Juve for Serie A starlet Calafiori
Tottenham Hotspur FC have been looking to sign a new central defender in the summer transfer window, and Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori has been subject to heavy links with a move to White Hart Lane (h/t Tutto Juve).
The North Londoners are in dire need of a new face at the heart of defence following the hurdles that Ange Postecoglou faced last season. The Australian boss was forced to play full-backs in the centre of the back-line as fillers at some point, and in retrospect, this is something the former Celtic coach would be looking to avoid going into the upcoming season. Daniel Levy and other officials at Hotspur Way would want to add depth to the roster at N17 that provides Ange with the tools to address the defensive frailties exposed this season.
Calafiori to N17?
Calafiori made a move to Bologna from FC Basel only last summer; he has been a revelation at the Stadio Dall’Ara in the recently concluded season. His performances have warranted his becoming one of the most exciting young prospects in his position in Serie A. This has led to Spurs interest as the club looks to sign another highly acclaimed player from Italy.
However, his signatures will not come easy, as the Lilywhites are facing competition from Italian giants Juventus, who have Thiago Motta, who was appointed as a manager for the Turin-based club, at their disposal to convince the 22-year-old for a summer move. While Juventus expressed their interest, Tottenham are pressing for a move for the Italian defender and are ready to surpass Juventus in the proposal for his services, per Tutto Juve.
