Pundit backs Tottenham star for bigger role following excellent Euro 2024

Euro 2024 boost? Dragusin could earn more minutes at Tottenham next season

Tottenham Hotspur defender Radu Dragusin has barely featured for the North Londoners since his transfer to White Hart Lane in the winter transfer window, and Sky Sports journalist Dan Bardel suggests that the 22-year-old central defender could find some game time under his belt in the upcoming season following his performances at the ongoing European Championships in Germany.

The North Londoners signed Dragusin from Italian side Genoa earlier this year in a £26.7 million (€31 million) deal after the Romanian international chose to join Spurs despite a hijack attempt by Bayern Munich in the eleventh hour. However, he has not found game time coming his way, mainly because of the already-established partnership of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero at N17.

The Spurs central defender has earned plaudits for his performances for Romania at Euro 2024. His antics keep Romania right in the mix for a Round of 16 qualification, as he helped keep one clean sheet and conceded just a couple of goals.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell acknowledges the quality that Radu possesses and suggests that the 22-year-old will only get better as he moves into his second season in the English top tier. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, he said:

“He’s a player who has come in knowing that he’s the third choice at Tottenham. I think he was very aware of that before coming in. Spurs are in Europe next season and have had their injury issues, so Dragusin will get his fair share of minutes next season.

“He’s a player who is going to get better and will be aware of the circumstances and back himself to break into the team. He has been top-class for Romania; he is a great athlete and has a lot of positive traits for a center-back.“

Overtaking the likes of Romero and Van de Ven for a starting spot is no easy feat. But Dragusin is young and has the ability to give them a serious run for their money. The more he pushes the duo, the better it is for Tottenham.
