Pundit backs Tottenham to sign this £25m rated striker once on Chelsea's books
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham Hotspur News, former Scottish footballer and pundit Alan Hutton has backed Tottenham Hotspur to sign Tammy Abraham for the striker position ahead of the likes of Ivan Toney and Dominic Solanke.
Abraham, once on Chelsea’s books was let go by the West London giants despite impressive performances in the Premier League. Under Jose Mourinho at Roma, the English youngster had a great start to life before injuries struck.
The 26-year-old marksman missed almost the entirety of the previous campaign through an injury. In the meantime, Jose Mourinho has moved on and the future of the talented striker in Italy is far from clear at the moment. Roma have apparently put him up for sale.
Abraham has made 119 appearances for Roma, scoring 37 goals and providing 13 assists. The 26-year-old forward is a much better player than the stats reflect, with the ex-Chelsea man capable of scoring much more regularly in a team that creates more chances.
Speaking about the situation to the aforementioned Tottenham Hotspur News source, here is what Alan Hutton had to say and why he backed Tammy Abraham at the N17
“Something like that wouldn’t surprise me. We’re talking about the likes of Ivan Toney and Dominic Solanke but these guys have huge price tags and I get that because they’re top players. Tammy’s a player that I really like, I played alongside him at Villa so I know what he’s capable of, I know his attributes. He scores goals, he’s a team player and he’s good around the changing room. For that kind of price tag, I know he had a bad injury last season, he will score goals. He knows the league, he knows the stadiums and he knows what it takes to hit that level so I think he’s more than capable. At that price, it would be decent to get a player of his ability and his age, so I think he can be the guy that can go and score you a good amount of goals in a Premier League season.”
Ever since Harry Kane left the club last summer to join Bayern Munich, Spurs have not really made a move for a natural number nine replacement. In a way, it made sense last season as any player would have struggled to fill the massive shoes of the English striker at the N17.
That said, now that a season has passed and the emotions have settled down, Tottenham need to prioritize signing a natural number nine. At 26, Tammy Abraham has a lot of things going for him and would represent a smart acquisition.
Hutton did mention names like Solanke and Toney. The latter would also be a great option to sign, considering he is a very different striker. The Brentford man drops deep and is as much a creative fulcrum as he is a box poacher and Ange seems to value players like this.
Solanke on the other hand is a signing we are still on the fence about. If Spurs want to sign a number nine, the answer must be either Toney or Abraham. Let’s wait and see how the club thinks in the same situation and who they choose to sign in the coming weeks.
