Tottenham set for windfall as former player could move to Wolves for around £30m

Tottenham could benefit from Wolves signing former player Jack Clarke

According to Give Me Sport, Tottenham Hotspur could be set for a windfall if Wolves’ move for Sunderland star Jack Clarke goes through as expected.

Clarke was on Tottenham’s books from 2019 until 2022 after joining from Leeds United. He spent most of his time out on loan and was let go of when Sunderland came calling. Since joining the Black Cats though, the 23-year-old has taken his game to a new level.

Predominantly a left-winger who can do a job on the right, the 23-year-old was described as “unplayable” by former Arsenal player Adrian Clarke. His exploits in the Championship have earned him recognition in the Premier League circles.

Wolves have come calling for the ex-Tottenham winger but do not want to spend more than £20 million for his services. Sunderland on the other hand knows that Clarke’s stocks are high and want to make the most of it.

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter what the terms of negotiations are between Wolves and Sunderland. Spurs are set to make a windfall from the aforementioned transfer, thanks to a shrewd decision that they made when they let Clarke leave.

Spurs inserted a reported 25% sell-on clause into Clarke’s deal which will see them earn 1/4th of any transfer fee that the Black Cats agree with Wolves. This could also be one of the reasons why the Championship club could be holding out for a high fee.

Jack Clarke is looking at a promising career ahead

Clarke was not getting opportunities at Tottenham and the club clearly did not envision a future for him. However, the 23-year-old has a bright future ahead of him and it was Spurs’ business decision that will see them profit from his sale.

Questions may be asked of the sporting department though on whether they could have been sharper in seeing the potential that Clarke possessed. However, we must keep in mind that players start exhibiting ability at different ages and maybe Spurs were not impressed by what they saw when Clarke was younger.
