“It’s complicated” – Alasdair Gold explains the intricacies in Tottenham Hotspur target’s contract

Alasdair Gold explains the difficulties for Tottenham Hotspur in signing Eberechi Eze

Answer in Football. London’s Q & A session, journalist Alasdair Gold has explained the intricacies involved in Tottenham Hotspur target Eberechi Eze‘s contract with Crystal Palace and why the North London club will struggle to sign him.

Eze has emerged as a primary transfer target for Spurs in recent weeks. The English winger is currently on international duty with the Three Lions in Germany where he has made a decent impact off the bench.

Along with Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze is the biggest talent playing for Palace in the Premier League and the duo have really caught the eye over the last 18 months. The former has already agreed to a move to Bayern Munich and it looks like the latter could be on the move too.

It’s not surprising to see Tottenham identify Eze as a key target this transfer window. He is English and would contribute to the home-grown registration rules. More than anything though, he is one of the most exciting talents going around.

The 26-year-old predominantly plays as an attacking midfielder or a left-winger and is equally adept in both positions. In the long run though, it might be the #10 where Eze makes a home for himself. If needed, the talented youngster can even play in central midfield.

Despite a few injury issues last season, Eze managed to make 31 appearances for the Eagles, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists. Playing in a much more creative setup under Oliver Glasner in the second half of the season, the English youngster really came into his own.

Eberechi Eze to Tottenham will be one of the signings of the summer if it happens

Speaking about the deal and the complications involving it, here is what Alasdair Gold had to say to the aforementioned Football. London source

“So many people I’ve spoken to in the game over this past week have been told that Palace are making it clear that Eze is not for sale amid Olise’s impending departure, which does throw the spotlight on that release clause.”

“That clause is an interesting one because nobody seems to be able to pin down exactly what it consists of, other than a general acceptance that it’s a complicated one. Some have suggested it’s more to do with money up front while not setting a valuation, while others have said that there is a price tag but it’s complicated.”

“For me, for Palace to be quite clear to people that Eze isn’t for sale suggests it’s somehow loaded in their favour whatever form it takes. There’s two months left of this window so lots of time left and transfers always take twists and turns, but at this point Palace seem pretty adamant.”

Crystal Palace are never a nice club to negotiate with and there is absolutely no doubt that they would make life extremely difficult for us if we want Eze. However, every negotiation has a price and it remains to be seen how much Spurs need to fork out.

Currently, Spurs have Son Heung-min on the left and James Maddison at the #10 as starters. Eze can push both of these players for a starting role in the future if not in the present. This is a signing Tottenham must get over the line. Let’s wait and see how these negotiations pan out.
