Real Madrid enter the race for highly-rated Italian ace on Tottenham Hotspur radar

Tottenham will have to beat Real Madrid for the signing of highly rated Italian ace

As reported by Italian outlet Gazzetta, Along with Tottenham Hotspur, Real Madrid are now also in the race to sign Italian ace, Riccardo Calafiori. The Bologna defender has burst onto the scene after his impressive form this past season.

The 22-year-old made 37 appearances across all competitions last season. Most of Calafiori’s time was spent at CB; however, he did have a few stints at LB as well. First off, he is an excellent defender.

Beyond that Calafioro also has the skill to carry the ball up the field, he also gets into threatening positions in the final third and can be a pain to deal with. The 22-year-old is already phenomenal and will only continue to get better under the correct circumstances.

Bologna who have reached the Champions League after a 60-year drought are determined to hold on to Calafiori this season. According to Gazzetta’s report, the club’s CEO doesn’t want to shake up the squad that has made history after six decades.

It is important for the club to retain their most important players now that Thiago Motta has left. If Bologna end up losing both their stars and their manager after making history, they won’t be able to make anything despite ending their 60-year drought.

So the Italian side’s need for Calafiori will surely be reflected in their asking price for the player. Both Tottenham and Real Madrid are ready to spend, but how much is too much considering Riccardo isn’t the finished article yet?

It’ll be interesting to see how the situation develops. But, the road to signing Calafiori will surely be tough. Even if Bologna gives in and are ready to sell, Tottenham will have to beat Real Madrid to the punch. Los Blancos could be about to add Calafiori along with Kylian Mbappe this summer. Might this be the end of a Calafiori and Cristian Romero CB pairing?
