AC Milan set to return with €15m plus bid for Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal
According to renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Serie A giants AC Milan are preparing a €15m plus bid for Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal with the club hoping to get the deal over the line by next week.
The Brazilian fullback has been continually linked with an exit from the North London club for quite some time now with AC Milan in constant negotiations. Until now, there has been no breakthrough in negotiations for the player.
Emerson Royal joined Tottenham from Barcelona back in 2021 and was a highly controversial figure for his first couple of seasons here. Ever since the arrival of Pedro Porro in January 2023, the Brazilian worked on his game and improved what he brings to the table.
The 25-year-old emerged as a reliable figure for Ange Postecoglou during a severe injury crisis in defence last season with the manager using him at left-back and central defence quite a few times. To his credit, Emerson managed to do a decent job.
Speaking about him and the lack of game time that Emerson gets in his primary position (right-back) due to the presence of the impressive Porro, Postecoglou called him a player with ‘outstanding with his attitude and demeanour around the place’.
With Fabrizio Romano now updating on his X account that negotiations are underway, it remains to be seen how Tottenham respond to this offer. Here is what the journalist tweeted:
“AC Milan are prepared to send new bid to Spurs for Emerson Royal as they hope to get the deal done next week. Proposal will be in excess of €15m, talks between clubs to continue. Emerson wants Milan move, as revealed in May; he’s already agreed on five year contract.”
Having signed Archie Gray from Leeds United, Spurs seem to be in a much more relaxed position when it comes to letting Emerson Royal leave. Knowing they have a replacement within the squad helps them make a decision on the Brazilian.
Despite Postecoglou’s praises for his attitude in training, at 25, the ex-Real Betis man understandably wants a more prominent role which looks impossible at the N17. Pedro Porro is one of the best right-backs in the league and was rather unlucky not to get a call-up to the Spain squad for the Euros.
