Tottenham have not given up their pursuit of 23-year-old PL ace who Steven Gerard called a 'top talent'

Tottenham Hotspur have not given up their pursuit of Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey

According to Birmingham Mail, Tottenham Hotspur have not given up their pursuit of talented Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey who perfectly aligns with their recent trend of signing high-potential youngsters.

The 23-year-old has been a part of Villa’s first team for quite some time now. Steven Gerard, the then-manager showed immense faith in him and used him a lot during his spell in charge of the club. Since then, his growth has slowed down a bit but he still features regularly under Unai Emery.

Such were Gerard’s immense trust in Ramsey’s abilities that he claimed back in 2022 that it was only a matter of time before the ‘top talent’ got called up to represent the England senior squad under Gareth Southgate.

However, Ramsey is yet to win a cap for the Three Lions although he continues knocking on the doors of it with his performances. Last season, he played 21 times across all competitions, scoring once and assisting two goals.

For a player of the 23-year-old’s abilities, the numbers need to be much better than they actually are, especially considering the fact that he is playing in a very impressive, attack-minded team under Unai Emery.

This however hasn’t deterred Tottenham’s pursuit with the North London club still pushing hard to convince Ramsey to come to the N17. The England U-21 international could play anywhere across the frontline although his future firmly seems to be in the #10 role.

According to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth who was speaking to the Last Word on Spurs podcast as quoted by the aforementioned Birmingham Live source, Spurs are in no mood to abandon their pursuit.

Under Ange Postecoglou, there has clearly been a shift in transfer policies to focus on youngsters with a high ceiling and with the signings that the club have made, there is no doubt that the North London club is building a special project not just for the present but also the future.

Adding Jacob Ramsey to the roster will only further go on to enhance this sentiment and if he can live up to the potential he showed whilst breaking into Steven Gerard’s team, then a Three Lions callup might not be too far off.
