Spurs eye Hermoso as centre-back solution
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly identified Mario Hermoso as their prime target for the centre-back role, per Calcio Napoli24.
The North Londoners have been linked with multiple defenders from across Europe, the latest of them being Riccardo Calafiori, who has snubbed Spurs and Chelsea interest in order to join Arsenal this summer.
And looking for considerable options in the market, the Lilywhites have landed on Hermoso, who comes with depth of expertise and experience. He is available on a free transfer this summer following the conclusion of his contract at Atletico Madrid last month.
Free agent frenzy
Looking at his potential, complemented by no transfer fees, Radio Punto Nuovo, relayed by Calcio Napoli24, suggests that Napoli has expressed interest in his signatures. Although the Italian side will have to offload players before moving onto new acquisitions, And alongside Napoli, the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Aston Villa have also expressed interest in his services.
Mario Hermoso bid adieu to Atletico Madrid after rejecting a reduced wage offer from Atletico. And Spurs are looking to take advantage of such a market situation.
Hermoso took the baby steps of his footballing career with Atletico’s city rivals Real Madrid in 2005, at the age of ten.
He signed for Atletico in a €25 million transfer from Espanyol in 2019.
Hermoso has been extremely integral to Diego Simeone’s side, as he played an instrumental role in their La Liga title win during the 2020–2021 season.
Tottenham will make a massive bargain transfer if they can land Hermoso this summer. He will not only fit into a dynamic style of play in North London but also bring much-needed depth into the center-back position.
