Spurs going after Scott McTominay and Eberechi Eze after the departure of Pierre-Emile Højbjerg
According to Fabrizio Romano, as reported by GiveMeSport, Spurs are likely to target midfielders going forward after the departure of Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and are considering moves for both Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze and Man United’s Scott McTominay.
Spurs are also likely to lose the likes of Oliver Skipp and Giovani Lo Celso in the middle of the pitch in this window.
Speaking about their midfield situation, the Italian journalist recently said this:
“It is a possibility for Tottenham to bring in a new midfielder after Højbjerg’s exit, I still think that they want to do something in the offensive position.”
As quoted by GiveMeSport.
Both Eze and McTominay had promising seasons last term despite the difference in their respective profiles as well as how much their current clubs prioritise them.
Despite Palace struggling under Roy Hodgson, Eze was a shining star in South London and continued being so after Oliver Glasner took charge to turn the Eagles’ fortunes around.
McTominay, on the other hand, delivered for an injury- and ill-form-stricken United from midfield whenever called upon by Erik ten Hag, delivering 10 goals and three assists for the Red Devils in 43 appearances across all competitions.
United are demanding to the tune of £40 million to let the Scotland international go, while Palace want around £70 million for Eze.
Eze’s contract at Palace, fetching him £100k a week, runs until June 2027, while McTominay’s £60k-a-week contract at United is expiring next summer.
Both moves make sense but are unlikely to happen
Eze is being targeted by Man City, while McTominay is linked with a move to Fulham.
While Eze can be expected to leave Selhurst Park this summer, the same cannot be said for McTominay, for whom United are likely to find his suitors unwilling to match their asking price, especially with only 12 months remaining in his contract.
