Atletico Madrid join Spurs in race for Gallagher
Tottenham Hotspur have been subject to links with Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher for some time now, though the burden of rumours has not materialized into a transfer just yet, with many Spurs faithful questioning the club’s interest in the England international.
Ange Postecoglou thinks the 24-year-old is a perfect fit for his playing style and has fortified attempts to land him since taking the Spurs job last summer. Caicedo praised Gallagher, labelling him a ‘machine’.
While the Lilyhiwtes continue his chase, Aston Villa have been looking to shoulder the North London giants to his signature. And while the Premier League duo pull each other back, Spanish side Atletico Madrid have leapfrogged them into potentially landing the Cobham graduate.
Atletico are growing in confidence over the possibility of landing Gallagher, per Football Insider. Reports suggest that the player has sounded out his family and friends for advice about a move to the Spanish capital.
Tottenham’s dream midfielder move in jeopardy
Chelsea are pushing to possibly sell Gallagher this summer as they weigh the possibility of the player running down his contract and leaving on a free transfer next summer.
The Englishman’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires in less than twelve months, and the Blues are reluctant to risk losing him on a free transfer in 2025.
While Spurs have held a long-term interest, Atletico Madrid have swooped in and are ready to take Gallagher away from the Bridge. However, they must first agree on a fee with the West Londoners, who are holding out for a mammoth sum for Gallagher.
For Tottenham, they will now have to work swiftly if they want to have an opportunity to land the player this summer.
