AC Milan nearing agreement with Tottenham for Emerson Royal

Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane, with AC Milan looking like his most likely destination at the moment.

While the speculation surrounding his move to San Siro has been dragging on for months, the transfer has yet to get over the line. In fact, the player featured in a Spurs pre-season friendly against Bayern Munich earlier today, which suggests that Rossoneri still has mighty work to get the transfer over the line.

However, the Italian media have been optimistic that a deal can be concluded soon, with both clubs nearing a full agreement on fees for the South American.

While the Serie A side tries to complete the transfer, journalist Andersinho Marques has suggested that AC Milan fans aren’t particularly stoked about the impending arrival of the former Barcelona defender. Despite this, the journalist did insist that it would be a perfect move for the player to get his career back on track.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with MilanLive.it, Andersinho Marques said:

“It’s true, the news of Emerson’s arrival wasn’t greeted with great enthusiasm. Many AC Milan fans are sceptical, especially considering the player’s mixed performances in the Premier League and the already established presence of other fullbacks at the club.”

“Emerson started his career in Ponte Preta’s youth sector before moving to Atlético Mineiro. After attracting attention with his performances in Brazil, he was bought by Barcelona in 2019, although he spent much of it on loan at Betis.

“In 2021, he was sold to Tottenham, where, however, he failed to establish himself as a regular starter. He will try to relaunch himself in Serie A.

“He was considered a promising young man with considerable potential. However, his career did not meet expectations. At Tottenham, he alternated good performances with moments of decline. His offensive game, combined with some defensive shortcomings, has raised questions about his true potential.

“Now, the transfer to Milan represents an important opportunity to relaunch himself, but it remains to be seen how he will adapt to Italian football and the expectations of the Rossoneri club.”

While things haven’t worked out for him at Tottenham, there are multiple reasons attributable to such a failed transfer, and that doesn’t mean that he became a bad player overnight.

A good example is how Juventus fans were relieved to get rid of Bentancur and Kulusevski, and both of the players have been valuable parts of the Spurs roster.

Emerson has the talent to shine, and he has shown that on multiple occasions at Tottenham. It is time he does that on a regular basis at Milan.

Here is to hoping that the move works out for Emerson and he can get his career back on track at San Siro.
