Tottenham dig heels in over Cristian Romero interest

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has been linked with a move to Real Madrid as the Argentine World Cup winner looks to establish his presence in world football. He has been an integral part of Ange Postecoglou‘s side and has shown his capacity to lead the backline at White Hart Lane.

The Australian gaffer decided to hand the 26-year-old the vice-captaincy at Hotspur Way, which showed his importance in the ongoing project at N17. And it turns out that the Lilywhites have aborted attempts by Real Madrid to poach the player this summer.

The Lilywhites paid a hefty £42 million to land Romero in 2021, and the investment has reaped massive dividends for Ange & Co.

Real Madrid see Cristian Romero pursuit hit a brick wall

Spurs insider and a senior correspondent at Football Insider, Paul O’Keefe, revealed on the Last Word on Spurs podcast earlier this week that the Spanish giants inquired about the Argentine’s availability earlier this year. However, Daniel Levy went on to quote a mammoth £150 million price to scare off the Champions League winners.

Argentine journalist Gaston Edul has now taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to confirm that the La Liga giants contacted the North Londoners to inquire about a possible move for the former Atalanta star. He goes on to acknowledge that Spurs would not entertain any offers for the defender and even refused to take to the negotiation table.

Spurs will be aiming to compete for silverware and hoping that Romero continues to play an integral role at White Hart Lane.
