Former Wales forward Helen Ward advised Tottenham Hotspur star Brennan Johnson to improve his end product, tagging him as a “bit raw”. Johnson represented Wales in their Nations League group game against Turkiye which ended in a 0-0 draw despite their dominance.
The 23-year-old has faced criticism for lacking end product despite having the pace and ability to constantly threaten the opposition. Johnson dominantly plays as a right-winger and has featured regularly for Spurs under Ange Postecoglou despite his struggles with contributions.
Spurs have started the season with a couple of setbacks after their draw against Leicester City and loss against Newcastle United. The Lilywhites dominated the away game against the Magpies which ended in a 2-1 loss but failed to finish their chances.
Postecoglou benched Johnson against Newcastle and brought him on during halftime for Pape Matar Sarr to seek an equalizer. The Wales international provided 10 assists and five goals from 38 games in all competitions last season for the Lilywhites.
Speaking on BBC Radio Wales (via BBC), Ward voiced her frustration towards Johnson’s end product and demanded improvement. She said:
“Brennan Johnson has to be a bit more cultured with his crossing, he’s blasted that across the face of goal. He’s got bundles of talent, but he looks a bit raw tonight.”
The Lillywhites will play their arch-rival Arsenal in the North London Derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday. As the Premier League action returns from the international break with a high-stake clash, fans want improvement in attack.
Postecoglou’s attacking style of play deserves better end-product from the players who are enjoying the freedom and creativity to perform. Spurs have a minimum expectation to return to the Champions League next season and only consistency

They are facing a rattled Arsenal who will miss Declan Rice in midfield after his red card against Brighton. Any form goes out of the window in such derby clashes, giving Johnson a golden opportunity to prove the faith the manager has shown in him.
