Romero is in Tottenham’s plans despite heavy interest in him
Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has emerged as one of the best players in his position over the last few years and at just 26, his transfer remains an attractive option for a number of European clubs.
Argentine journalist Gaston Edul (of TyC Sports) recently reported that Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid showed an interest in luring him away from north London this summer but Spurs held their ground and firmly refuted any interest from the trio.
Romero remains firmly in Tottenham’s and Ange Postecoglou’s plans as this time around, the club did not even put a price tag on him just weeks after it had emerged through Paul O’Keefe that any interested party, among which Madrid were mooted, would need to pay £150 million for Romero.
While the player is set to stay put in the British capital for now, it is anticipated that clubs will come back for him in 2025, just two years prior to the expiry of his contract to try and test Spurs’ resolve in what is likely to be their final opportunity to dictate terms for his sale.
In 2026, a number of sides would hope for a significant discount on the World Cup winner given that his deal at Hotspur Way expires in 2027. While there is no news as to whether there would be a contract extension in store for Romero, one would think that fresh talks are imminent.
It remains to be seen whether the Argentine international prolongs
his career with Tottenham or decides to pursue a different sporting project sometime down the line, but there is no denying the fact that his importance to Postecoglou’s side is vital at least in the medium term.More Tottenham Hotspur News:

Romero is inarguably the best defender at Tottenham Hotspur at the moment and the backline is also relatively thin and inexperienced with Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin the only other options in the centre of defence, although Ben Davies has inverted from his full-back role at times.
