Fabrizio Romano: Tottenham outcast ready to stay and fight his way into Postecoglou’s plans

Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to push the deadwood out along the summer window, and while Daniel Levy & his chiefs have done a wonderful job clearing out the surplus, a certain Sergio Reguilon still remains at Hotspur Way.

Sergio Reguilon had been subject to aggressive links with a move away from the Lilywhites for the summer transfer window; however, nothing materialised, and the former Real Madrid defender still finds himself in the thinking of things at N17.

Reguilon stays put as transfer window closes

Reguilon is clearly not part of Ange Postecoglou‘s plans, and his stay at Spurs comes as a surprise to many, especially considering that his contract runs down at the end of the season. The 27-year-old has already been intimidated about the fact that the first team minutes wouldn’t come by his way, per The Standard.

While the transfer window in Turkey just closed last Friday, many expected Reguilon to move across to the Super Lig; however, journalist Ben Jacobs suggested last week that he is set to stay put at Spurs till the winter window.

And transfer guru Fabrizio Romano insists that the Spaniard is not desperate to find a new club. Romano, in his daily debrief, does suggest that there is an opportunity for the 27-year-old to fight back for his place under Ange’s tutelage.

Fabrizio said on The Debrief: “Yeah, there are some players still looking for moves. Ben Chilwell and Sergio Reguilon, as you mentioned, nothing is really close or concrete with these two. In the case with Reguilon, I am told that he’s not desperate for a move.

“Either there is a good opportunity or he will be there fighting for a place at Tottenham. Chilwell is completely different because Chilwell is out of the project at Chelsea.”

Spurs defender could fight for place under Postecoglou

The club has included the 27-year-old in the Premier League squad for the first half of the season, meaning he is eligible to represent the Spurs badge. However, it looks difficult for opportunities to come his way unless there is any injury crisis similar to what Tottenham suffered in the twilight weeks of the previous campaign.
