Upbeat Tottenham star keen to maintain ‘attitude’ following Manchester City win

Date:

Timo Werner is looking to build on his newfound confidence in front of goal after ending a lengthy 18-match dry spell by scoring in Tottenham’s Carabao Cup victory over Manchester City. The striker’s recent form had been challenging, with notable missed opportunities against Manchester United, Ferencváros, and AZ Alkmaar. However, Werner broke the drought in style on Wednesday, and he’s now focused on maintaining this momentum as he seeks to be more assertive in front of goal.

On loan from RB Leipzig, Timo Werner wasted no time making an impact, firing home in the fifth minute off a precise cross from Dejan Kulusevski after a brilliant team build-up. His early goal set the tone for Tottenham’s crucial 2-1 victory over Manchester City, securing a spot in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals, where they’ll face Manchester United at home.

Timo Werner expressed his relief and determination after his recent goal, saying via Youtube:

“It was a tough game, but scoring after challenging weeks felt really good, especially at home. The crowd’s reaction wasn’t just about me finally scoring; it was more of a shared relief. They’d been saying, ‘We knew he’d get there eventually,’ and finally, I did. Hard work has paid off, and I’m determined to keep this momentum.”

Reflecting on his goal, Werner added:

“Watching it back, I realised I took the shot with much more confidence and intent than I had before. That’s the attitude I need to maintain.”

Despite a slow start to his second loan spell at Tottenham, Timo Werner continues to position himself in dangerous areas, earning £165,000 per week. His persistence finally paid off with his crucial goal against Manchester City, demonstrating his potential to impact games. Although he limped off following the match, the 28-year-old is determined to deliver more decisive moments as the season progresses. Werner’s focus now shifts to building on this performance and contributing significantly to Spurs’ campaign.

Werner was seen limping off the pitch after the match, but we remain hopeful that his injury isn’t too serious. According to Premier Injuries, it could simply be normal fatigue, considering the limited match time the German forward has had recently. Fans are eager for his swift return, as the experienced striker adds significant value to the team with his skill and presence on the field.
