Kieran McKenna on Tottenham Hotspur's radar as potential Ange Postecoglou replacement.

Tottenham are riding high after their win against Manchester City, securing a spot in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals. Michael Owen has given Spurs fans a reason to feel hopeful about Ange Postecoglou’s vision for the club, despite some inconsistency in results. Postecoglou has confidently expressed his ambition for Tottenham to compete with the top teams for major trophies, a bold outlook that resonates well with fans hungry for silverware.

Despite the optimism surrounding Ange Postecoglou’s project, Tottenham’s performance against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park highlighted the hurdles that remain. Inconsistency, especially in away fixtures, continues to undermine their push toward the Premier League’s top spots. To truly compete at the highest level, Spurs will need to find a steadier rhythm and strengthen their resolve on the road.

Michael Owen Draws Parallels Between Jurgen Klopp and Ange’s Early Days

Owen, a former Ballon d’Or winner, noted that in Klopp’s early years at Liverpool, the team struggled with consistency and needed a few seasons to find their stride. It was only after Virgil van Dijk’s arrival that they began competing at the topmost level. Drawing on this, Owen believes that Tottenham, under Postecoglou, could follow a similar trajectory. Speaking to Wide World of Sports, he suggested that with time and the right additions, Spurs could also become a formidable force under their new manager.

Owen speaking to Wide World of Sports,

“What it also does is expose the weak links in your team, if you continue playing in the right way then it does expose the players that actually can’t carry out what you want. And then Jürgen Klopp went out and bought Virgil van Dijk, he went and bought a new goalkeeper, and more new players because, as I say, I think it exposed the players that couldn’t cope.”

“So there is definitely that train of thought and the end of the day like anything you’ll just have to judge people on results over a period of time and that will be the test I guess but I do like process and I do understand the process that certain managers do to get there.”

Owen’s words could serve as a source of motivation for Ange Postecoglou as Tottenham pursues silverware this season. The former striker suggests that a significant signing could shift the team’s fortunes, echoing the sentiment that progress takes time—much like the saying, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.”
