Kieran McKenna on Tottenham Hotspur's radar as potential Ange Postecoglou replacement.

Tottenham are gearing up to face Aston Villa on 3rd November, where Ange Postecoglou will look to ruin Unai Emery’s birthday celebrations in what promises to be a high-stakes Premier League encounter. Villa have had an impressive start, currently sitting fifth in the league with just one loss in nine games. In his recent press conference, Postecoglou expressed his intent to disrupt the momentum of Emery’s side as Spurs aim to make a statement against a team who’s currently topping the new Champions League format.

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery, who turns 53 on Sunday, maybe one of the more experienced figures in the Premier League, yet he’s still junior to Tottenham’s Ange Postecoglou, the league’s oldest manager at 59. Acknowledging Villa’s strong form, Postecoglou admitted that, based on recent performances, Villa are more deserving of a Champions League spot than Spurs. However, he’s determined to “get on top of them” in this weekend’s clash.

Everyone remembers Aston Villa and Tottenham’s top-four battle last season

Last season, Spurs and Aston Villa battled fiercely for a top-four finish, with Villa ultimately edging Tottenham out by just two points to secure the final Champions League spot. If English clubs had gone further in Europe’s competitions, fifth place might have also qualified for the Champions League, but disappointing exits saw Spurs settle for Europa League football while Villa went on to beat Bayern Munich on the biggest stage.

Yet, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou dismissed any frustration over Villa’s Champions League run, emphasising his focus on closing the current five-point gap to Emery’s side.

Ange speaking on the pre-match conference via Youtube, did not show any frustration over Villa clinching the Champions League spot,

“If English teams had only done better in Europe last year. Jeez, woe is me,”

“Nah, I think they got what they deserved. We got what we deserved. We’re playing where we’re playing. They’re playing where they’re playing. We’ll just try and get on top of them this year. “

“We know it’s going to be a good game. We’ll ask certain questions of each other.”

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou wants to make it an unhappy birthday for his Aston Villa counterpart Unai Emery

“Miserable day for him, I hope!

“I’m the oldest in the comp mate, so I’m not going to mention birthdays.”
