Tottenham delivered a statement win by beating Aston Villa 4-1 at home in the Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur had a fantastic last week as they followed their 2-1 Carabao Cup win over Manchester City with a 4-1 resounding home success over Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.

Once again, Ange Postecoglou saw his side go 1-0 down at White Hart Lane—a goal that seemed to be the product of messy defending from a set piece. There has been uncertainty when defending corners and Aston Villa took full advantage of that, with Morgan Rogers opening the scoring from close range.

However, Tottenham managed to rescue the game and collect all three points in the second half by producing a blistering display. Goals from Brennan Johnson, James Maddison and a Dominic Solanke double helped the home side seal the deal and climb to seventh in the table.

TalkSPORT pundit Ally McCoist was effusive in his praise for Tottenham’s splendid display against the Villans. He feels Ange Postecoglou’s side have the potential to have consistency to be in the top four and win a trophy this season.

After being asked by host Jeff Stelling whether Tottenham have got the consistency or even the potential to qualify for the top four in the Premier League, McCoist said on TalkSPORT:

“I think they have got the potential to have the consistency for top four. I’ve gone on record to say they could win a cup this year, absolutely.

“They’ve got a level of performance in them that could beat anyone and that’s what I think. On their day, all things firing on all cylinders, Spurs can beat anybody.”

Can Ange Postecoglou keep his word of winning a trophy in his second season at Tottenham?

Tottenham have to be highly consistent to make it to the top four this season. A lot will depend on key players staying fit for large periods and avoiding unnecessary suspensions. Big Ange has a nice blend of prodigious talents and experienced campaigners in his squad to achieve a top-four spot—something we narrowly missed out on last term.

As far as winning a cup is concerned, Big Ange is hellbent on ending the club’s long trophy drought. The 59-year-old has the ambition of winning a trophy this campaign, as evidenced by his comments in September about always winning silverware in his second season in a job.

Spurs have knocked Man City out of the Carabao Cup and will now face Manchester United at home for a semi-final berth, so Postecoglou and Co. are practically just three wins away from winning a piece of silverware and fulfilling one of the 2024/25 campaign’s objectives.
