Big Ange waxes lyrical as Tottenham overcome detractors in memorable week of results

Postecoglou believes he will be missed after he leaves Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham have failed to string strong performances and results this season

Ange Postecoglou oversaw a second win of the week after watching his Tottenham Hotspur side thrash Aston Villa 4-1 in the Premier League.

The Lilywhites came from 1-0 down to win 4-1 in north London, just days after Ange Postecoglou’s side eliminated Manchester City from the Carabao Cup with a 2-1 victory in the fourth round. Goals from Brennan Johnson, Dominic Solanke and James Maddison ensured Morgan Rogers’ first-half opener was cancelled out, with the result lifting Spurs to seventh in the Premier League standings.

A lack of consistency has been a big problem for this Tottenham team this season. In some games, Big Ange’s boys have looked superb and ran ragged teams like Manchester United, West Ham and Aston Villa. During others—such as Newcastle United, Arsenal and Crystal Palace—they looked disjointed, lacklustre and impotent as a whole unit and dropped points.

The second-half display and three points against a tough Villa side was a statement win for Spurs, one that would not only give them a huge lift going into the upcoming games but also remind the squad of what they can achieve with resilience, togetherness and proper mentality.

None other than Big Ange would be frustrated with the varying degree of performances and results his boys have produced this season. Into his second season in north London, the Greek-Australian tactician is wary that he and his lads will endure bumps and setbacks during this rebuilding process but wants them to learn from their mistakes and grow together.

Addressing on Spurs’ inconsistent performances and results this season, Big Ange said after the Villa game (h/t Football London):

“You don’t fall off cliffs and climb up mountains within a week. You’re going to have to bumps along the way and it’s how you address them and learn from them.”

There are evident cracks in the team and one of those is consistency, as witnessed in last weekend’s flat display and defeat at Crystal Palace and before that the 3-2 defeat against Brighton, having led 2-0 and at one point cruising, but there is certainly something exciting happening at the Hotspur Way under Big Ange.

Of course, it is extremely frustrating for the fans to watch their side play in scintillating fashion at times, before delivering insipid and lacklustre displays like performances against Palace and Arsenal.

Nonetheless, we could see there is something special brewing in N17, and with more quality players, consistency and fighting spirit, we will win trophies under Postecoglou.
