Postecoglou believes he will be missed after he leaves Tottenham Hotspur.

Ange Postecoglou is determined to help Tottenham win a trophy this season

Tottenham Hotspur showed mettle and resilience to come from a goal down to beat Aston Villa 4-1 convincingly at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

The game saw Ange Postecoglou’s white army bounce back from a disappointing 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace in the Premier League last time out and build on a morale-boosting 2-1 Carabao Cup fourth-round success over Manchester City.

It was a performance and result which the Spurs fans thoroughly enjoyed, especially the manner in which the goals went in after the break via Brennan Johnson, Dominic Solanke and James Maddison.

Dominic Solanke was the star of the show last weekend, scoring his first brace for Spurs against a well-drilled Villa side. The club-record signing showed composure for his first goal by dinking past goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez before finishing off a Richarlison cut-back from close range to complete his double.

In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, Solanke has outlined Tottenham’s ambitions this season. He feels ‘winner’ Ange Postecoglou has it in him to guide Spurs to a trophy.

“We want to do well in every competition. We are still in every competition we wanna make as long as we can in all of them. We still got you know so many games to play and a lot of things can happen in football, but I think with the foundations there we need to kick on and stay consistent like I said earlier we all believe we can achieve great things. So, yeah hopefully we can win something this season,” Solanke said on Sky Sports.

When interviewer James Savundra asked how much will it mean for the group of players to win something this year, win some silverware, the Spurs centre-forward explained:

“Ahh massive! I think this is what everyone’s been waiting for here. The gaffer is big on it as well here. He is a winner himself and reiterates to us all the time. Yeah, I think we have got the squad to do it here, everyone believes we can. So, it is just about doing it now.”

Can Big Ange end Tottenham’s 17-year-long wait for a piece of silverware this season?

Following Tottenham’s early season loss to Arsenal, Big Ange made it clear to the media, pundits and fans that he always wins a trophy during his second campaign in charge of a football club. The Greek-Australian tactician does historically have successful second seasons with the clubs that he manages, so there’s hope that he will end Tottenham’s 17-year-long drought.

The Spurs boss and his squad are determined to win a trophy come the end of the campaign, be it the Carabao Cup, FA Cup or the Europa League. Former manager Jose Mourinho claimed the Lilywhites are one of the early favourites to win the Europa League this season, while Big Ange’s side remain just three wins away from lifting the Carabao Cup having dumped Man City out of the competition in the fourth round.

But outside of winning a much-needed trophy — which Spurs last did back in 2008 when they won the EFL Cup — the club also should finish in the Premier League top four and subsequently qualify for the Champions League again.
