Archie Gray gives Big Ange and Tottenham food for thought with England u-21 display.

Archie Gray has struggled for game time at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur are establishing a very exciting group of young players at the Hotspur Way currently with a clear focus on future prospects.

The north Londoners enjoyed a strong summer transfer window where Daniel Levy and Johan Lange brought in some exciting talents through the front doors at White Hart Lane. One of those talents to arrive in the summer was Archie Gray.

Archie Gray joined Tottenham from Leeds United for a fee worth around £30million in August. He became the talk of the town following an impressive campaign with Leeds United, making over 50 appearances and featuring in his preferred midfield role as well as at right-back.

Archie Gray left Leeds United to join Spurs in the summer.

Since the Whites failed to secure top-flight promotion, Spurs took advantage of the Championship club’s financial situation and beat several clubs to the teenager’s signature. One of the hottest prospects in English football, Gray, however, hasn’t been able to get regular first-team action at Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou.

So far, the England youth international has featured in 10 matches and has been on the pitch for only 491 minutes. He is yet to start a Premier League game and has come off the bench only five times. As per a report from GIVEMESPORT, Gray could be subject to a lot of offers during the winter transfer window.

John Wenham—the owner of the famous Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose—has tipped Southampton to make a move for Gray in the January transfer window. He feels the versatile Englishman would be required to join a club where he is going to get regular minutes after virtually spending more than the first two months of the 2024/25 season on the bench at Tottenham.

“It would have to be a club where he will be playing every minute,” Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.

“Somewhere like Southampton could be a possible destination in January. However, he is also playing a decent amount of football at Tottenham.

“Therefore, I don’t see him leaving on loan because he is already establishing himself within the squad quite well.”

Big Ange is yet to hand Archie Gray his first Premier League start at Spurs.

Gray has seen opportunities tough to come by at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. More importantly, he is yet to start a game in his preferred midfield position. The England under-21 international finds himself behind the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma in the pecking order and the lack of minutes has led to a lot of talk about his future.

Big Ange considers Gray an important part of his long-term plans at the club but he hasn’t given him much opportunities to showcase his talent. Hence, why, it would make sense that the Durham-born talent is sent out on loan, perhaps to a Premier League side like Southampton.

While the Saints find themselves in the relegation zone, Russell Martin has not shied away from giving youngsters opportunities in the Premier League and the same could happen with Gray if Spurs decide to loan him to the south coast club.
