Tottenham Hotspur defender Radu Dragusin has been tasked with stepping up and showing his quality as the Lilywhites face challenges in the defensive line owing to the injury problems at White Hart Lane. The Romanian signed for the Lilywhites at the commencement of the ongoing calendar year when Daniel Levy brought him from Genoa in a deal worth £26 million to add depth and quality to Ange Postecoglou’s defensive roster.
Although, despite signing for the North Londoners for about a year now, the Romanian international hasn’t had a consistent set of opportunities under his belt at Hotspur Way, which has been a cause of frustration among the supporters and players alike. This has led to speculations suggesting a possible exit in 2025 transfer intervals as the 22-year-old seeks to find consistent opportunities under his belt.
Wenham rules out Dragusin loan move: ‘He’s not going anywhere’
However, amid links with a move away from Spurs, John Wenham, owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, insists that the Romanian international “isn’t going anywhere.”
Dragusin has been subject to links with a move to Juventus off late, with the Italian giants looking to land his signatures on a loan transfer, per a recent report via. La Gazzetta dello Sport. However, Wenham suggests that the player is too important to be allowed to seek minutes away from White Hart Lane on a loan deal.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Wenham said:
“There is zero chance of that happening. He’s actually playing quite a lot of games. Also, if Destiny Udogie were to ever get injured, we’ve seen Micky van de Ven can play at left-back, which means Drăgușin would be the starting centre-back.
“Whenever Cristian Romero or van de Ven are injured, he is also the starting centre-back. Therefore, any links or stories about him going out on loan are a complete waste of time.
“It is all about him establishing himself now at Tottenham. He is still very young, which people are quick to forget. He isn’t going anywhere.”
With Cristian Romero and Mikey van de Ven serving the sidelines, this is an opportunity for Radu to have an inroad in Ange Postecoglou’s starting lineup and showcase his potential as a reliable option in Tottenham’s backline. This period can be a turning point in the Romanian defender’s time at N17 as he looks to cement his place in the Australian head coach’s starting eleven.
