“The law is clear…” – Former PGMOL chief gives verdict on Solanke’s handball decision vs Ipswich Town

Date:

Tottenham Hotspur have been enduring a difficult time off late as inconsistencies have cost the Lilywhites in abundance, and the problem was compounded last weekend as Ipswich Town came to White Hart Lane to defeat the North Londoners in a surprise result.

The Lilywhites faced Tractor Boys at home as they were looking to get back from a midweek loss against Galatasaray S.K. in the Europa League; however, things took a turn for the worse as Kieran McKenna’s side out-smarted and out-played Spurs to snatch all three points.

Spurs suffer shock defeat to Ipswich

While Tottenham were building possession without any output, Ipswich played with intent to put through two goals past Vicario in the first half, and it always had to be a tough climb from there. In the second half, when Spurs still trailed with two goals, Dominic Solanke notched one back; however, it was disallowed following a VAR check as the ball found the back of the net following a deflection from the ex-Liverpool striker’s arm.

And former English referee Keith Hackett insists that there was nothing wrong with the decision and Spurs cannot complain about the disallowed goal on Sunday. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham Hotspur News, the former PGMOL chief said:

“The law is clear. Even if it’s accidental, you cannot score a goal with the use of your arm. In this situation, it’s the correct decision.”

The result saw the Lilywhites drop to tenth in the table, and while former scout Bryan King suggests Ange Postecoglou is far from being sacked, the pressure is mounting as Tottenham continue to struggle with consistency and a lack of results in key matches.
