Tottenham Hotspur’s Pedro Porro responds to Real Madrid interest
Real Madrid star Dani Carvajal suffered an ACL injury last season, which saw them show interest in Pedro Porro’s signing from Tottenham Hotspur. The former Sporting Lisbon star became the second Spurs player to be linked with a swoop to the Spanish capital after there were talks of Madrid lining up a lucrative transfer for Cristian Romero as well.
Carvajal’s injury has seen Porro earn a call-up to the Spanish national side. He is expected to be in action and be watched by Real Madrid’s scouts when La Roja face Denmark and Switzerland in the Nations League. Prior to the team’s outing against Denmark, Porro was thrown into the media room for a pre-match press conference during which he was quizzed about interest from Madrid.
Football Espana (translated from Spanish on El Desmarque) quoted him saying the following.
I am focused on my work. I’m 25 years old, at 26 I don’t know where I could be, football is like that. I am settled in English football, I have a contract until 2028. My name and others come up [in relation to Real Madrid], but I am focused on my club and now with the national team. My friends send me rumours, it’s a compliment, but I’m focused. It is the result of a job well done that one of the best clubs in the world notices me.”
Porro has indeed kept his cards close to his pocket and refused to give into the conversation very much. However, the fact that he mentioned the validity of his contract until 2028 is probably a suggestion that he may have one eye on what is brewing in the Spanish capital, and if indeed Real Madrid could be willing to speak to Tottenham over a move for Porro.
As good a club as Spurs may be, they have had their fair share of problems, not least with retaining managers for a long time and none more graver than winning silverware. It is normal for a player of Porro’s calibre to envision himself winning trophies and so, it is only normal for him to be enticed by interest from Los Merengues.

Moreover, Real Madrid is the pinnacle of the sport for several footballers, particularly those who are born in Spain. Porro was linked with a move to Real Madrid when he was a player for Sporting Lisbon as well, and it may actually be a second time lucky for him. Madrid’s priority, however, is said to be Trent Alexander-Arnold, but if they are unable to land the Liverpool defender on a free transfer next year, they may show intent in pursuing Porro’s signature.
