Tottenham Hotspur have been laying a move for a new midfielder going into the 2025 transfer intervals as the North Londoners look to add depth as well as quality in the middle of the park, and club chairman Daniel Levy has been looking at multiple names for a probable transfer, with the latest being Lens midfielder Andy Diouf.
The Lilywhites have expressed interest in landing Diouf alongside West Ham and Crystal Palace, per Give Me Sport. And former Spurs scout Bryan King believes that Tottenham will have to sell either of Yves Bissouma or Pape Matar Sarr to make room for the 21-year-old Frenchman.
King insists that any midfielder that the North Londoners sign will have to be ‘special’ considering the options Ange Postecoglou already has at his disposal.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, King said:
“They can’t bring anybody else in with the numbers they’ve already got.
“If they’re serious about bringing Diouf in, they need to shift at least one midfielder out. There is no guarantee that this player would feature regularly.
“There are international players at Tottenham who are sitting on the bench. Therefore, anybody who comes into the club would need to be very special.
“I think it would either be Bissouma or Sarr who would make way.”
Levy targets Diouf amid midfield shuffle
Tottenham have plenty of options in the midfield, with Ange Postecoglou constantly rotating his troops in midfield when possible; however, Spurs are still very keen to add more players to their roster in the position.
Alongside Diouf, Real Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso has also been linked with a move to White Hart Lane.
Bissouma has already been subject to links with a probable exit citing last summer, and he looks like a more possible transfer out in the 2025 transfer interval over Sarr, who is still developing into his potential.
For Tottenham, Levy is vying for multiple midfielders at the moment, and any arrivals, as King suggests, could well trigger exits.
