Tottenham legend’s statue unveiled in London with an eye on FIFA World Cup 2030

Harry Kane’s statue was revealed in London on Monday, where the England captain revealed his ambition to play in the 2030 World Cup. The Waltham Forest council, located in north London, spent £7,200 creating the likeness between 2019 and 2020. However, due to local regulations, a permanent location had yet to be found for the statue until now.

The Peter May Sports Centre in Walthamstow, London, has installed a statue of Harry Kane sitting on a bench with a ball on his knee. The former Tottenham forward was present for the unveiling, just a short distance from where he first started his football journey.

Kane, now England’s all-time top scorer, returned to the site where he began playing at the age of five. Located just 20 minutes from Tottenham Hotspur’s home ground, the centre has become the perfect spot to honour the legend who rose from these humble beginnings.

The Tottenham legend wishes to inspire kids

They placed the statue in front of a mural showcasing key moments from Kane’s England career. During the unveiling, Kane joined two young players from Ridgeway Rovers FC, the club where he began his youth football journey. Sharing a selfie with the statue on Instagram, Kane expressed his pride, writing: “A real proud moment for me to go back to where my life in football began and unveil a statue. I hope it helps inspire the next generation to work hard and believe in themselves.”

Speaking to BBC, the legend remarked

“It’s pretty special to be honest. I played on these pitches as a five-year-old with dreams of playing for England, and I’ve been lucky enough to achieve that.

“Hopefully the boys and girls will walk past and be inspired by the story of my journey, my life and hard work.”
