Tottenham are eyeing a January move for Burnley star James Trafford.

Tottenham are contemplating a move for Feyenoord star David Hancko

Tottenham Hotspur did spend a considerable amount of money in the summer transfer window to reshape their squad. However, the results haven’t been good enough and they lie 10th in the table, although only three points adrift of third-place Chelsea.

With so much money spent, the pressure really is on Ange Postecoglou to deliver the goods. Regardless of their spending, it looks like the Lilywhites are looking for more signings, especially in defence.

Indeed, according to an exclusive report from GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham are considering making a move for Feyenoord defender David Hancko.

Spurs have yet to be clear about whether they want a specialist left-back or a versatile player capable of operating both as a central defender and full-back. They have set aside a sizeable budget to bolster their backline, particularly due to injury issues to first-choice centre-back pairing Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

The North London outfit would prefer not to spend more than £25million on the position if they do decide to sign a player during the January transfer window. The aforementioned report adds Tottenham’s long-term plan with the development of on-loan young defenders such as Ashley Phillips and Luka Vuskovic may impact how much intent they show in hunting reinforcements.

Feyenoord’s David Hancko is one of the defensive options to have emerged as a target. The Slovakian’s rise at Feyenoord since arriving from Sparta Prague in 2022 has been impressive. He has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Eredivisie and his stock rose further following eye-catching displays during the 2024 European Championships in Germany.

The 26-year-old has racked up 110 appearances across all competitions for Feyenoord to date, scoring 12 goals and supplying 11 assists. Hancko has been in great form since the start of 2024/25 season, starting each of his side’s 12 league fixtures. However, as the defender is contracted at De Kuip until 2028 (Transfermarkt), the Slovakian international won’t come cheap.

With volumes of experience in the Eredivisie, European leagues and at the international stage, Hancko has developed into a strong defender capable of influencing games with his passing, awareness and tactical intelligence. At 26, the ex-Fiorentina man is entering the prime stages of his career and could immediately make an impression at White Hart Lane.

The Prievidza-born talent has the qualities to be viewed as a potential leader for Tottenham’s defence, and his ability to operate both as a centre-back and left-back would fit perfectly into the club’s long-term strategy, providing the solidity and charisma required to strengthen the defensive ranks for the upcoming seasons.

All in all, Daniel Levy should push for Hancko’s signature to solve Spurs’ defensive woes.
