Pedro Porro just cannot to get himself away from the limelight this season. If it’s not his performances garnering attention, it’s the interest from Man City and Real Madrid, both of whom are looking at the Spaniard as a potential solution for their long-term solutions at the right-back slot.
And now, another team are expected to enter the race for Porro thanks to a managerial change.
Man United expected to pursue Pedro Porro for Rúben Amorim reunion
As reported by Sport Witness, people in Pedro Porro’s camp expect Man United to enter the race for his signature after the arrival of Rúben Amorim from Sporting.
It was under Amorim’s tutelage at the José Alvalade that Porro emerged as one of the hottest fullback prospects in Europe, prompting Tottenham to rope him in last year.
Amid pre-existing interest from Man City and Real Madrid, Tottenham have slapped an £80m price tag on the Spain international, who has been a mainstay in Ange Postecoglou’s starting XI this season. The 25-year-old also has one goal and two assists from his 13 appearances this term.
Porro’s £85k-per-week Spurs contract runs until June 2028.
Here’s why Man United shouldn’t pursue Porro
United already have two right-footed wingbacks in Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui. It is on the other side of the pitch where they need solutions given the availability concerns surrounding Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
So if United are going to enter the market in January, it’s likely going to be for a left-footed wingback that won’t cost nearly as much as the fee Spurs are demanding for Porro. Also, as we have seen under Erik ten Hag, signing players from a coach’s previous club only goes so far in helping them in their current job.
