TalkSPORT pundits are in no mood to have Paul Pogba at Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur have refreshed their squad in recent times, replacing the majority of their deadwood with young and hungry talents.
The Lilywhites were one of the busiest teams in the Premier League in the summer transfer window, smashing their club record by signing Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth. They also invested in highly-rated young talents such as Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Wilson Odobert.
Yet, Ange Postecoglou’s squad is far from being complete. Indeed, they sit 10th in the table and improvements are certainly required if Spurs are to get back into the Champions League.
Tottenham, like all other clubs, can dip their toes in the free transfer market and sign players without paying a single penny as a transfer fee. This could bring Paul Pogba into their sights.
The Frenchman will be determined to find a new club after terminating his contract with Juventus by mutual consent last week. The central midfielder’s contract will officially end on November 30, and he will then become a free agent.
Paul Pogba had his doping ban reduced from four years to 18 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in October, meaning he will be able to play football again in March. The 2018 World Cup winner can return to training in January next year.
On the talkSPORT show, Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist were discussing whether Spurs should hand Pogba a chance to resurrect his career after he failed to excel on his return as a free agent to Juventus. Both pundits agreed in unison that Daniel Levy would not be appealed to the idea of having the France international at White Hart Lane.
“There has never been a player who existed that is more non-Ange [Postecoglou] than Pogba. No chance. Big Ange, no chance he’s taking Pogba.,” Ally McCoist said on talkSPORT.
“Busted flush. That’d be the end,” Alan Brazil added. “I think Daniel [Levy] will be like, ‘No, no, no, I don’t think so’.
“He’s a massive question mark. You look what he’s won, you look what he can do and yet, can you trust him? No.”
There is no doubting Pogba’s quality and class, and despite being 31 years old, he would offer value to several European clubs on a free transfer, but Spurs are not one of them. In Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr, James Maddison, Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray, Postecoglou has six midfield options at his disposal. Add Dejan Kulusevski to the mix as well after his transformation as a central midfielder this season and it sums up to seven options.

Even if Bentancur is banned for the next seven domestic games, Big Ange will not be lacking options to pick his midfield unit. Youngsters such as Gray and Bergvall are hungry for minutes, and the duo will view Bentancur’s ban as a potential route for game time.
Thus, it would be senseless to add Pogba to the Tottenham squad, particularly as he would demand significantly high wages.
