Tottenham under Technical Director Johan Lange have been keen to establish themselves as a platform for promising young talents.
To that end, they are now being linked to a player who may very well be considered an conventional scalp for whichever club that manage to get him.
Tottenham and Leicester City monitoring Louie Barry
As reported by TeamTalk, both Tottenham and Leicester City are monitoring English forward Louie Barry.
The Aston Villa youngster is currently on a second season-long loan spell at League One side Stockport County, for whom he has already delivered better numbers this season than he did last term, currently sitting on 12 goals and an assist in 17 appearances across all competitions.
The 21-year-old, a former youth player for Villa as well as West Brom and Barcelona, is currently valued by Transfermarkt at €800k, though the TeamTalk report indicates the Villans will demand a fee north of €12 million to let him leave permanently next summer.
Premier League may be a step too far
Barry’s numbers in the Football League have been impressive in recent seasons, though he has hardly had any time in the Championship. A step to the Premier League may thus be considered one too far, and both Spurs and Leicester (if they stay up) can be expected to send him back down to the Football League on loan if either of them decide to go for him.
It will be best for Barry to consider a season in the Championship to demonstrate his ability to seamlessly move up a level. The current reported price Villa are demanding is too much of a jump from his market valuation, and it will suit all parties if he were to remain on Villa’s books while playing at a higher level next season.
