Tottenham winger Wilson Odobert is facing an extended spell on the sidelines following hamstring surgery

Wilson Odobert has endured a tough start to life at Tottenham Hotspur following his summer move from Championship side Burnley.

The French winger has made five appearances across all competitions for Spurs thus far, with three of those coming in the Premier League. Due to injury issues, the teenage prodigy has seen his playing time limited, featuring for just 162 minutes in the Premier League under Ange Postecoglou.

He sustained a hamstring injury in September and, after briefly returning to fitness last month and making a substitute appearance against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League, the youngster sustained another thigh issue.

This time it turned out to be a serious one for Wilson Odobert, who is facing an extended spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery to his right hamstring. The club’s medical team will closely monitor his progress before determining a timescale for his return.

Former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson has now expressed his sympathy for Odobert after he underwent hamstring surgery earlier this week. After injury problems have decimated his start to a new chapter in North London, the English pundit is remaining patient with the winger.

“There’s nothing you can do, it’s just bad luck. Injuries are part and parcel of being a football. There is always going to be pressure on you when you come with a price tag and expectation,” Paul Robinson exclusively told Tottenham News.

“If you pick up two injuries in quick succession, there’s nothing you can do. I’ve not looked at his injury record at his previous clubs but it’s just unfortunate. Yes, it’s frustrating, but because he had such a bright start when he arrived.

“He and Brennan Johnson are two exciting, quick wingers, who want to take their full-back on and get in on the outside. I suspect that he’s the most frustrated out of everyone.”

Big Ange will be frustrated to lose Wilson Odobert for a long time due to a hamstring operation

Odobert has shown glimpses of potential since arriving at the Hotspur Way from Burnley but he will be extremely frustrated with the injury setbacks. The same goes for the fans and Ange Postecoglou, who appears no closer to having a fully fit squad available at his disposal for the forthcoming gruelling schedule.

The France under-21 international’s long-term injury is a mega hit on Big Ange’s squad depth which has already been compromised by the board’s lack of productive transfer activity in the past window. As he is 19 and still raw, Odobert would have been a valuable player to have off the bench in cup competitions and the Premier League.

It remains to be seen how long the speedy winger will be sidelined. Big Ange and the fans have to be supportive and patient with Odobert as soon begins his rehab to achieve full fitness.
