Tottenham Hotspur are chasing Reading starlet Andre Garcia
Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to build on a productive summer transfer window as the Lilywhites look to bring in more highly acclaimed prospects through the doors of Hotspur Way.
Daniel Levy and his associates have been looking to compound on the newly adopted strategy of signing highly-rated young talents and developing them within the club, as Spurs look to nurture the talent to create a long-term and sustainable model for success at N17.
With the January transfer window on the horizon, Tottenham will surely be looking at targets for the present and future. Now, according to an exclusive report from TBR Football, Spurs are among several Premier League clubs monitoring Reading talent Andre Garcia closely.
Andre Garcia only made his first-team debut for Reading in August. He has quickly established himself as a first-team regular, racking up 14 appearances across all competitions, including 11 in League One. He started seven successive games in League One before November’s international break, and the youngster’s rollicking start to professional football has not gone unnoticed.
The aforementioned report adds Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Manchester City are all believed to be interested in Garcia and could give the 16-year-old the opportunity to play in the Premier League. The left-footed defender has attracted interest from across Europe too, with Atletico Madrid, RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, Atalanta and Marseille believed to be keen.
Initially expected to operate as a winger, as per Reading manager Ruben Selles, Garcia has made the left-back spot his own this season with a series of impressive displays that belie his age. Interest from the Premier League and European clubs are a testament to the kid being a special one.
As for Tottenham, they have Destiny Udogie and Ben Davies as the first-team options at Ange Postecoglou’s disposal. Udogie has established himself as the undisputed first-choice left-back since the start of last season, with Davies acting as a deputy.
However, with Davies 31 and in the final seven months of his contract (Transfermarkt), Spurs do require a new player to cover and compete with Udogie from next season onward. Garcia, even though he is only 16 and extremely raw, could be that player.

He has shone in League One and, with proper guidance, nurturing and backing over the next few years, the Englishman could be ready to challenge Udogie for a place in the Tottenham XI. Perhaps, the Lilywhites would plan to either integrate Garcia into their squad or send him on loan to develop further as a potential future star.
Reading’s dire financial situation could make it easier for an interested team to poach him, and Spurs must look to take full advantage of that and bring in the prodigious talent.
