Grealish to Spurs? Hutton sees potential despite financial hurdles

Earlier reports suggested that Tottenham were looking into Jack Grealish’s situation at Manchester City, but John Wenham, owner of the popular Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, has labelled the England international a “luxury player.” Wenham doesn’t believe Tottenham will pursue a move for Grealish.

Jack Grealish would certainly be a statement signing for Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham side. The 29-year-old’s experience and talent could provide a valuable boost. However, the hefty price tag, with ex-Spurs scout Bryan King estimating Manchester City would ask for at least £50 million, may make the deal less appealing.

Expert Advises Against Big-Spending on Grealish for Tottenham

Since his big-money move to Manchester City, Grealish has struggled to live up to the expectations that came with his transfer fee. In 135 appearances for the club, the Englishman has managed just 34 goal contributions. While his ball retention and control are commendable, his play often ends in a pass back to the midfield rather than creating decisive moments. Whether this is a result of Pep Guardiola’s demanding system or his hunger being limited at Man City is just a matter of debate.

Spurs are not typically known for splashing big money on signings, with their recent £65million acquisition of Dominic Solanke marking their highest-ever transfer fee. This makes the prospect of securing Grealish at a significant cost less likely.

Speaking to Tottenhamhotspurnews, he remarked

“I question how good Grealish still is,”
“Whenever I watch him, he seems to just be a luxury player that goes through the motions. He would cost a lot of money as well. Therefore, I just can’t see that happening, if we’re being realistic.”

“He was phenomenal when he was at Villa. However, after winning everything there is to win in football, I’m not sure he still has that same hunger.

While Grealish has not been performing at the same level he did with Aston Villa, and with his position increasingly under threat from the emerging Jeremy Doku, a move away for more game time could be on the cards. The £300,000-per-week salary could become a focal point once again, especially under Ange Postecoglou’s system. However, given Tottenham’s approach to spending and their current squad structure, it remains to be seen whether they will make a move for the Manchester City star.
