Leo Black has impressed with the Tottenham Under-21s this season
Tottenham Hotspur have a plethora of talent at Hotspur Way, with each of the youngsters having the capacity to make an impact for the first team in the coming years.
Daniel Levy and Co. are looking to build a pipeline of players from the academy to the senior team. With the cognizance of head coach Ange Postecoglou, several young guns including academy kids left Spurs on loan to different clubs in the past summer transfer window. And another academy talent in Leo Black could be the next in line.
Leo Black was a crucial player for Spurs’ Under-18 last season. Following his excellent form at that level, he was promoted to the Under-21s this term. The Englishman has made 10 appearances across all competitions, including featuring in seven games in the Premier League 2 and registering two assists.
The exciting talent’s performances have seemingly not gone unnoticed, with Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham expecting Leo Black to leave Tottenham on a season-long loan next season. After impressing for the Under-21s, he feels a first-team debut isn’t far away for the teenager.
“He could make his full debut in the Europa League,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“Black is a very versatile player. He can play that inverted right-back role to a tee because he was a central midfielder who just last season developed into a right-back.
“With Abbott out on loan, I could see Black moving up the pathway at Tottenham. Abbott is Black’s main competition if he is going to break through in North London.
“Therefore, just by being around the club this season, with the way Europa League games are lined up, I think he will benefit.”
Tottenham are set to embrace a packed schedule with Europa League and Carabao Cup games about to follow after the 4-0 thrashing of Manchester City on Saturday. There are more Europa League games to be played this season due to the change in the format of the UEFA competitions, so Ange Postecoglou has to manage his squad carefully.
With the Lilywhites’ squad already hit with injuries to key players and a lengthy suspension to Rodrigo Bentancur, the Greek-Australian tactician could take a dip into the academy. As a result, Black—having starred for the Under-21s, would be among the favourites to get an opportunity or two to feature in the first team.

Black is highly rated among the academy at Hotspur Way, and he could well be one of the next players to make the loan move next summer, which would be a fantastic opportunity for him as he looks to take strides into senior football.
