Tottenham battle Manchester giants for £42 million Serie A star

€40m-rated South American midfielder courted by Tottenham as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg exit beckons

Tottenham are among the clubs interested in Atalanta star Ederson

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to be busy in the transfer market next year having already been linked with several players. While there remain question marks over the winter budget having spent a good amount in the past summer transfer window, Daniel Levy seems to have the ambition to compete and help the club achieve Champions League qualification this term.

A central defender could arrive at N17 owing to injury problems to first-choice centre-back pairing Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, though the Lilywhites have been linked with a very promising midfielder in recent days. The player in concern is Atalanta star Ederson.

According to an exclusive report from GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham will face competition from Manchester United and Manchester City for the signing of Ederson.

The Brazilian has established himself as one of the top central midfielders in Serie A in recent years. He has grown in stature since arriving at Atalanta from Salernitana in 2022, playing a key role in the Gian Piero Gasperini-managed side’s Europa League triumph last season.

Ederson has made 12 league appearances so far this campaign, scoring two goals and registering an assist as Atalanta eye the Serie A title for the first time in their history. The all-action midfielder’s performances in Italy have unsurprisingly gone unnoticed, with Tottenham among the clubs vying for his signature.

The aforementioned report adds that Spurs will find it extremely difficult to sign the 25-year-old in winter as Atalanta are determined to keep him on board for the rest of the season. Given Ederson’s importance to Gasperini’s side, La Dea would not want to weaken their hopes of winning their maiden Serie A title. To stave off interest from the suitors, Atalanta have slapped a £42million price tag on their star.

It is clear that Tottenham would find it challenging to persuade Atalanta to part ways with Ederson midway through the season. The Lilywhites are building a young team and have a promising sporting project, as opposed to Man United’s uncertain one under new boss Ruben Amorim. This could appeal to the South American when he decides to take the next big step in his career, having spent almost three years in Italy.

With that said, the financial offers and sporting projects from the three interested clubs will prove to be a decisive factor in the summer and it remains to be seen if Spurs are prepared to outdo the Mancunian duo for Ederson.
