Tottenham Hotspur are undergoing a significant rebuild under Ange Postecoglou, who aims to shape his side into a world-class team. Since his appointment, numerous players have departed the club while fresh talent has been brought in. The changes have shown glimpses of progress, with the team managing to defeat Manchester City twice, though their inconsistency remains a lingering concern.
Tottenham are lucky to have several long-serving stalwarts who have experienced the club’s highs and lows over the years. Among them are Son Heung-min and Ben Davies, both key figures since the Mauricio Pochettino era.
With Davies’ contract set to expire at the end of the season, reports suggest Tottenham are poised to activate a 12-month extension. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday ahead of Spurs’ Europa League clash with Roma, Ange Postecoglou shared his thoughts on the Welsh defender’s future.
Ange Praises Ben Davies as ‘Highly Respected’ Tottenham Defender
Ben Davies has been a respected figure in Tottenham’s lineup since joining from Swansea in 2014. Earning £80,000 gross per week, he has played 338 games for Spurs, contributing impressively for a defender with 32 goal contributions throughout his career at N17.
Football.London’s Alasdair Gold asked Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou if he feels the £10 million man, Ben Davies, “doesn’t get the credit he deserves outside these walls for his reliability,” particularly with ongoing speculation about his future at the club.
Postecoglou as cunningly as ever replied,
“It’s hard to say with perceptions because it depends what your barometer is.
There’s so many these days, where depending on what rabbit hole you go into, you can get any outcome you want.
“I doubt anyone who has any sort of real passion for this football club or real passion for football wouldn’t say that he’d be very highly respected within or outside of this football club.”

Postecoglou also highlighted that Ben Davies earned the trust of several top managers, including Pochettino, Mourinho, and Conte, during their respective tenures at Tottenham. He further pointed out that Davies’ status as captain of his national team is a testament to his ability. Additionally, Son Heung-min’s admiration for Davies, calling him his favourite player to ever play for Tottenham, underscores how highly regarded the Welshman is at N17.
