Pedro Porro had a decent outing for Tottenham in the 2-2 draw with AS Roma in the Europa League
Tottenham Hotspur dropped points against AS Roma at home in the Europa League on Thursday evening following an entertaining 2-2 draw.
Goals from Son Heung-min and Brennan Johnson were not enough to earn Ange Postecoglou’s side maximum points in what proved a tricky evening in N17. With the score 2-1, Mats Hummels scored the equaliser in the dying minutes to frustrate the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium faithful.
One of Spurs’ better performers in the 2-2 draw with Claudio Ranieri’s Roma was Pedro Porro. The Spaniard has established as a pivotal player for Spurs under Ange Postecoglou. On Thursday, he delivered a good shift and once again demonstrated why he is the undisputed first-choice right-back for Big Ange.
Against Roma, Pedro Porro delivered a solid performance that highlighted his tactical awareness and composure on the ball. The Don Benito-born talent had 103 touches on the ball with 73% passing accuracy, made one key pass and completed 4/5 long balls.
Defensively, the 25-year-old demonstrated firm determination with 7/10 ground duels won. He added value with one interception, two blocked shots, five clearances and six tackles. Porro won a foul and showcased discipline in a tense game.
The full-back did go close with a free-kick in the second half. He was unlucky not to score from outside the box, having the woodwork. Funnily, the Spanish international almost cost Tottenham with a moment of madness at the end of the game. (Stats courtesy: SofaScore)
Porro suits the profile that Big Ange desires in a Tottenham full-back with the capability of playing different roles. The £85,000 per-week star is comfortable running down the byline to stretch the opponents or tuck into midfield to dictate the tempo. Against Roma, he made a critical interception and provided cover for his teammates on the right side. His all-around performance highlighted his work rate and commitment to both attack and defence.

Liverpool faces their toughest opponents in the coming weeks and months with the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool waiting. Porro needs to maintain his consistent improvement to achieve something tangible after making so much progress already.
If he can avoid lapses in concentration and improve his defending, Porro can become the best right-back in the Premier League.
