As has consistently been the case under Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham followed their 4-0 drubbing of Man City by drawing 2-2 against Roma in the midweek.
After the game, however, Postecoglou’s opposite number had nothing but praise for him.
Claudio Ranieri reveals what he told Ange Postecoglou after Roma draw
Roma head coach Claudio Ranieri revealed to the press what he said to Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou after the two sides played out a 2-2 draw in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.
“I complimented [Ange] Postecoglou. I love this style of play because that’s how the crowd gets fired up. The fans need to know that we want to do something like this.
“Tottenham had their chances on the counter-attack but that’s normal. We played against a great team but I saw a great Roma that never gave up and the equaliser was the culmination of their efforts.”
Ranieri speaking to Forza Roma after the game.
The 73-year-old is back in management to help out his boyhood club after their second managerial sacking of the season. he is expected to be part of hiring process of his successor come the end of the season.
Up next for Spurs is a home game against Fulham on Sunday.
Under Postecoglou, Tottenham will never be boring
Tottenham may continue their “win one week, drop points the other” pattern of results as long as the Australian coach presides at the club, but as far as the viewers are concerned it’s a guaranteed win-win. Postecoglou’s attractive football entices you in, dares you to look away, and keeps you hooked as long as it’s on.
Too bad it’s built on a philosophy so fundamentally rigid it will hardly ever amount to long-term success at a club like Tottenham.
