Arsenal legend warns Tottenham of reality check ahead of Fulham clash.

Tottenham Hotspur aim to build on their stunning 4-0 victory over Manchester City as they prepare to host Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday.

Despite a 2-2 draw against Roma in the UEFA Europa League, Spurs remain in a strong position to advance to the knockout stages. However, their current sixth-place standing in the Premier League falls short of their ambitions, making the clash against Fulham a crucial opportunity to climb the table.

Tottenham must keep securing victories to break into the Premier League’s top four, as they currently trail fourth-placed Arsenal by three points. Their next challenge comes against Fulham, who sit just a point behind Spurs in the table.

Paul Merson has expressed doubt over Tottenham’s reliability, predicting that their inconsistency could resurface when they face Fulham in North London.

Paul Merson backs Fulham to upset Tottenham

Tottenham may still be riding high after their impressive win against Manchester City, but Fulham will look to bounce back from their 4-1 thrashing by Wolves last weekend.

Paul Merson, however, believes Marco Silva’s side can match Tottenham stride for stride, insisting their performance against Wolves wasn’t as poor as the scoreline suggested. The Arsenal legend also criticised Tottenham’s inconsistency, describing it as one step forward and two steps back, and predicted a surprising 2-1 loss for Spurs on their home turf.

Merson in his column for Sportskeeda, wrote

“Despite Tottenham beating Manchester City 4-0 and Fulham losing 4-1 to Wolves, it wouldn’t surprise me if Spurs drop points in this game,”

“That is how this club works. Tottenham can either wipe the floor with teams or comfortably get beat. Remember it was only two weeks ago they lost 2-1 to an Ipswich side that had not won until then.

Merson once again highlighted Tottenham’s “Robin Hood” tendencies, a trait that continues to define their unique unpredictability. Adding to their woes, Richarlison is now ruled out for the rest of 2024, with his hamstring injury proving more severe than initially thought. Despite this setback, Postecoglou still has most of his key players available and will aim to navigate the tough festive schedule one match at a time.
