RB Leipzig’s Lutsharel Geertruida has emerged as an option to replace Real Madrid-linked Pedro Porro
Tottenham Hotspur are supposedly in the market for adding a right-back to their defensive ranks, especially owing to speculation surrounding the future of Pedro Porro.
Pedro Porro has been impressing for Spurs this season. He has become one of the first names on Ange Postecoglou’s teamsheet following his contributions at both ends of the pitch. The Spaniard’s performances in the Premier League have caught the attention of Real Madrid, who are eyeing a long-term successor to Dani Carvajal.
Carvajal, one of the best right-backs in the world over the last five to six years, has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury. As he is 32 and heading towards the twilight of his career, Real Madrid view Porro as one of the potential options to replace their star.
As for Porro, he has made no secret of his desire to play for Los Blancos. Tottenham will be sweating over the future of the Don Benito-born talent but they appear to be working behind the scenes to sign his potential replacement.
According to an exclusive from CaughtOffside, Spurs have a concrete interest in RB Leipzig defender Lutsharel Geertruida.
Although the Dutchman only arrived in the summer from Feyenoord and has a contract at the Red Bull Arena until 2029 (Transfermarkt), there is believed to be a price at which RB Leipzig may be open to do business. And that fee is rumoured to be in the region of €40-45m.
The 24-year-old has made 17 appearances across all competitions for RB Leipzig, operating as a right-back, centre-back and right wing-back under Marco Rose. This demonstrates the versatility of Lutsharel Geertruida, and that combined with his physicality, passing skills and reading of the game, could make him a valuable asset for Tottenham.

The Netherlands international would be a good fit in Postecoglou’s high-intensity, pressing football. Despite his lengthy contract with Leipzig, not much argument can be made against exploring a move for the Rotterdam-born talent. However, the aforementioned report adds the likes of Aston Villa Liverpool, Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal and Lyon have also expressed an interest in him.
So, Spurs face tough competition to bag Geertruida’s signature, but if the club realistically view him as a potential replacement for Porro, we must not hesitate to test Leipzig’s resolve with a cheeky bid in January.
