Can Micky van de Ven reach his ceiling? Examining a breakout year at Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur will face Fulham this weekend, entering the match with a depleted squad. Guglielmo Vicario is sidelined with an ankle injury he sustained last week against Manchester City, while Cristian Romero remains a doubt after picking up an injury during international duty a few weeks ago.

Micky van de Ven is also sidelined with a hamstring injury. However, he is on the road to recovery, with Alasdair Gold providing a positive update on his progress. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Gold revealed that Van de Ven has returned to outdoor training and was seen in the gym on Wednesday while observing Spurs’ open training session.

Micky van de Ven is back in the gym

Van de Ven sustained his injury in October during Tottenham’s clash against Manchester City, a match where Spurs triumphed over the reigning champions. Since joining from Wolfsburg, the defender has made 39 appearances for the Lilywhites and currently earns £50,000 gross per week.

Alasdair Gold shared insights from Tottenham’s open training session on Wednesday, highlighting Van de Ven’s progress. According to Gold, the Dutch defender is on the right track, but Spurs are wisely adopting a cautious approach to his return. While they are easing him back into action, they remain eager to have him available as soon as possible.

Van de Ven’s importance to Tottenham cannot be overstated; his absence has significantly impacted the team’s performance, with their win percentage notably dropping when he is unavailable.

Gold explaining on his YouTube channel, stated

“Micky van de Ven is on the road back. He’s doing some work outdoors. I saw him in the gym when I was watching open training on Wednesday at Hotspur way. Mikey Moore was in there and Van de Ven was in there doing some work as well. They’re going to be really cautious with both of them.”

Although Van de Ven’s absence is evident for the Fulham clash, Tottenham’s impressive display against Manchester City with a makeshift backline highlights their ability to adapt. However, with Ange Postecoglou describing Van de Ven as “outstanding,” it’s clear the Dutchman remains a crucial part of Spurs’ plans. Once fully fit, he will undoubtedly reclaim his spot in the starting XI, bolstering their defensive solidity.
