Former Spurs scout Mick Brown has disclosed that Tottenham Hotspur will face stiff competition from several Premier League clubs in their pursuit of 18-year-old Tyler Dibling. The Southampton starlet has made significant strides since breaking into the Saints’ starting eleven earlier this season, earning widespread acclaim with each impressive performance.
Back in September, GiveMeSport reported that Tyler Dibling’s creativity and flair had drawn interest from Tottenham and several other Premier League clubs. However, more recently, Football Transfers revealed that Aston Villa have taken the lead in the race to sign the Southampton academy graduate. Villa have already initiated discussions with the player’s representatives about a potential move to Villa Park.
Spurs Warned by Mick Brown About Challenges in Tyler Dibling Pursuit
The right winger, who secured a first-team spot earlier this year, has now featured in 20 games for the Saints. Earning £5,000 gross per week, he has already registered three goal contributions—a notable achievement for an 18-year-old talent.
Mick Brown has disclosed speaking to Football Insider that almost every Premier League club is closely monitoring Tyler Dibling’s progress at Southampton. According to Brown, the England Under-21 international has drawn significant interest due to his impressive performances this season, with scouts frequently attending his matches.
Brown noted that Dibling’s standout display against Liverpool has particularly caught the attention of top clubs. He also emphasised that if Southampton face relegation, they may be forced to offload key players like Dibling to cope with the financial strain—a scenario similar to what Leeds and Leicester experienced last year.
The former scout explained,
“If Southampton go down, chances are they’ll have to sell some players. The way the financial rules are at the moment, relegation can be very costly. I think we saw that with Leeds and Leicester last year.”
“With Dibling attracting interest, he may well be one they look to cash in on if a good offer arrives. Don’t get me wrong, they’ll be keen to keep him at the club, he’s a product of their academy and a very good one at that. But with interest building, relegation from the Premier League might force them to sell.”

Tottenham could be a great place for Tyler Dibling’s development, but with Brennan Johnson currently in the right-wing role and injuries affecting other options, breaking into the first team would be tough for him at this stage.
