Tottenham and Postecoglou to discuss January transfers
Tottenham drew 2-2 against AS Roma in their midweek game in the Europa League as their run in the continental competition stretched to two matches without a win. In fairness to them, however, they were playing with a compromised squad depth and a makeshift defensive department given the wholesale injuries their players have suffered in recent weeks.
Ange Postecoglou revealed to BBC Sport that he has held discussions with the club’s technical director Johan Lange about how Tottenham plan on approaching the January transfer window, while also saying the recovery and form of his players in December would go a long way in finalising the strategy, which the manager expects to continue discuss with the club’s hierarchy over the next fe weeks.
It goes without saying that the Lilywhites would be bolstered by the addition of a defender, preferably a versatile option. They are understaffed at the back and injuries for both, Cristian Romero as well as Micky van de Ven, have shown the club a clear gaping hole and lack of quality in the heart of defence whereas doubts also persist over having a capable back-up behind Pedro Porro.
In midfield, the team is looking reasonably secure with all players delivering the goods when called upon. The engine room has been bolstered by the ability of Dejan Kulusevski to play in the middle of the park to fantastic effect. Rodrigo Bentancur is suspended for the foreseeable future, though his return will be a vital boost later on in December too, so no signings can be expected.

As far as the offence goes, Richarlison’s and Wilson Odobert’s fitness will go a long way in deciding the club’s strategy. Both of the players have been injured for the better part of the season so far, leaving Ange Postecoglou with a trimmed attack, which has also had its share of ups and downs, thanks to Timo Werner’s inconsistencies and Son Heung-min’s minor fitness problems.
